Emily Elhoffer
Emily Elhoffer is a transdisciplinary artist who makes bizarre and visceral work. She earned her undergraduate degree from Kansas City Art Institute and is currently pursuing an MFA at the Sam Fox School of Art & Design at Washington University in St. Louis.
Elhoffer's work has been exhibited in galleries and institutions across the United States, including the Var Gallery in Milwaukee, Woman Made Gallery in Chicago, and Viridian Gallery in New York. Her pieces have been included in several group shows, and she has also had solo exhibitions in prestigious venues. Her work is well-received by critics and she has a devoted international collector base.
In addition to making art, Elhoffer has taught workshops and has been an active leader in her own creative community. She helped form a community of over 250 creatives at MADE Makerspace in St. Louis, where she hosted workshops and provided mentorship for emerging artists.
Elhoffer's work deals with themes of the body, the contemporary gaze cast upon it, and mind-body dysphoria, drawing on the feminist philosophies of Rosi Braidotti and Jia Tolentino. Her pieces examine the ways in which societal norms and power structures shape one’s understanding of their bodily identity. Through her art, she invites viewers to question their own assumptions and consider alternative ways of living within one's own flesh.
